Helping his brother escape the zoo, Rainy discovers more than just an array of animals.

Rainy scouts the zoo, planning a mission to rescue his brother, who’d been sold by poachers while in wolf form. He gets a whiff of the most intoxicating scent, the man Travis Carlyle, his mate. But he quickly finds out that before he can claim the handsome veterinarian, Rainy has to convince Travis that he’s worth coming out of the closet for.

Travis leads a quiet, discreet life, avoiding any situation that could possibly out him to his family. After so many years alone, Travis finds the love, affection, and acceptance Rainy offers him too hard to resist. But just when he decides Rainy might be worth the persecution of revealing his sexuality, he discovers Rainy has been keeping secrets, a lot of secrets Werewolves, Shifters, Mates? When he watches a shift with his own eyes, Travis is forced to accept the truth.

Too bad not everyone wants Travis to know the wolves’ secrets, tossing him into a feud between shifters. When Travis’s father tries to come between them, can Rainy convince Travis to choose a dangerous, love-filled life with him instead of the comfortable, quiet existence he’s led with his family?

These books need to be read in order!

I have read several of these books, not realizing that the Kontra's Menagerie books were so heavily connected, I started the Kontra's Menagerie set first, big mistake on my part. While these books each have a different story, its all very connected to the Stone Ridge books.

I liked this book, but I have read others from her that I liked more. This is a good, easy, fun to read series! I really, really like Kontra's Menagerie, and can't wait to get back to it! But I have some catching up to do first!

Werewolf at the Zoo Wolves of Stone Ridge Book 1 edition by Charlie Richards Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I bought this and "Alpha's Prerogative" after reading a sample of the latter. The characters are intriguing, the story's solid, and the sex is hot, but unfortunately, the author has some stylistic issues that are making me second-guess my purchase

* Very few authors can write an accent or dialect well, and sadly, this author is not one of those. The constant "ye" for "you" and "me" for "my" was grating, especially once it was established that the brothers are second-generation Irish-American and shouldn't have much of an accent at all. I grew up in Chicago and subsequently lived in Boston for thirteen years; I've never heard anyone Irish or Irish-American speak like that.

* I loved that Declan was not stereotyped as being "gangsta"; seeing a well-written black character is the main reason I read the sample. I think it's awesome that he's Irish--although again, not a fan of the attempt to write the accent--however, if he's Irish, then he's NOT "African American". It's perfectly okay to refer to him as black, and if the author wasn't sure, then please, ask someone!

* Along with this, there's the issue of poor research in general. On the date at the Irish Pub (not clear if that was supposed to be the name of the place?) Travis goes in and orders a Sam Adams? In a BOTTLE? I'm surprised the wait staff didn't pitch him out on his ass! If he's not a Guinness guy, any Irish-style pub worthy of the name would have Harp on draught, and a selection of other beers that don't require a fork. It's a small detail, but those details are important.

* There were quite a few typos, misplaced abbreviations, and misused apostrophes throughout the story, suggesting the author didn't have an editor or a beta reader look over the story before posting it.

Had it not been for these issues, I'd have given "Werewolf at the Zoo" four stars without hesitation, and possibly even five, but as is, it was a struggle to read to the end, and I feel badly about that.
Two years ago I read the first several books in this series. Now I'm ready to finish the job, only a lot more books have been published since then. So I'm starting from the beginning and enjoying the series all over again. While I remember some, there was still a bunch I'd forgotten in this first book.
In my family a pair of siblings married a pair of siblings so it's definitely a concept I am very familiar with. When I was a little girl it never occurred to me that one set of those couples could be one brother from each respective family. Which is the case with Travis' family. There are no gay family members. To the point that he is deeply closeted. Living a lie to placate his homophobic parents. He hoped he had his sister's support but he can't be certain so he doesn't want to risk loosing her love & respect. When two wolf shifter brothers scent them as mates, there are double dates where Travis and his Mate are actting as "chaperones". Of course the mate pull is too strong and Rainy's seduction too enticing for Travis to resist. As you can imagine this causes alot of problems within his family. And if that's not enough there is the little matter of their mates revealing to Travis and his sister that they're wolf shifters. Screams and locked doors! Then there is the little issue of someone else claiming Rainy as a mate. Oh really?!!
But to answer the main question A shifter ends up in the zoo when there are poachers in the National Forest who tranq him & others then sell them to zoos. Cliff Travis' brother in law helps bring awareness to the other animals and shifters in need who are also being victimized by the poachers. He lets his pack alpha know who brings in a Siberian tiger shifter who's a police detective, in addition to other pack members the beta and enforcer. The scene is set for the next book in the series.
These books need to be read in order!
