John Cleland (baptised September 24, 1709 – January 23, 1789) was an English novelist most famous and infamous as the author of Fanny Hill or, the Memoirs of a Woman of Pleasure. John Cleland was the oldest son of William Cleland (1673/4 – 1741) and Lucy Cleland. He was born in Kingston upon Thames in Surrey but grew up in London, where his father was first an officer in the British Army and then a civil servant.

I am still reading this book - I do like it quite a bit. A little bit difficult to read at first because it was written such a long time ago - but you kind of get used to it. It's like an olden day pornographic novel .. would read this over 50 shades any day. HahaProduct details

It was really just fine,a good read.
In theory this is a good book. Published in the 1700s, this book was banned for its extreme erotica. The story is about a mid teenaged girl from the English countryside who’s parents die from disease. She heads to the city to try to make a life for herself and that life turns into a Woman of Pleasure. And she likes it and the descriptions are very graphic about everything. I was actually amazed at how articulate, in the sexual aspect of people, the author was at that time. It gives 50 Shades a run for its money. For me, though, it just didn’t do much for me in being interested in the book. I don’t consider myself a prude; it was just repetitive in describing the next sexual encounter, just using different names and descriptions for things. Another amazing thing though-I didn’t realize just how many ways there are to describe male and female genitalia, especially from an era over 200 years ago!

Not the original. I purchased this by mistake thinking it was the original novel. It’s a play adaptation.
